Megapixels to Dimensions Calculator

Estimate image width and height from megapixels and an aspect ratio.

Enter your values and run the tool.

What this tool calculates

Estimate image width and height from megapixels and an aspect ratio. The main inputs on this page are Megapixels, Aspect ratio width, Aspect ratio height. The result is intended to be readable immediately, with the explanation below available when you need to verify the method.

Method and calculation basis

Megapixels = width × height ÷ 1,000,000. Converting megapixels back to dimensions also needs an aspect ratio, so more than one width/height pair can represent the same megapixel count.

Worked examples

Print reference

3000 × 2400 px at 300 PPI corresponds to 10 × 8 inches.

Resolution check

6000 × 4000 px contains 24,000,000 pixels, or 24 MP.

Understanding the result

The output should be read in the units shown beside the result. If you are comparing alternatives, keep all unchanged assumptions identical and alter one input at a time. That makes it easier to see which value is responsible for the difference.

Assumptions, edge cases and accuracy

Dimensions and PPI are mathematical properties; they do not guarantee visual quality. Compression, resampling, focus and source quality still matter.
